It’s almost here… the #SeptemberWhole30, starting on Friday, September 1, 2017.
What’s that? Fridays are an awkward day to start a 30-day dietary reset? Well, at least we’ll all be in this together, hashtag no excuses. Plus, there’s no RIGHT day to start a Whole30, and you’ll be really happy all month long when your Whole30 DAY (Day One, Day Fourteen, Day Twenty-Seven) matches up with the calendar DATE. It’s the small things. Plus, your Labor Day cookout or BBQ is an easy one to Whole30-fy, and we’ll help you do just that in our next Wholesome newsletter. (Subscribe, yo!)
Our group Whole30s are an annual tradition, and by now many of the Whole30’ers who plan to join us know the drill. But if you’re new to our community (welcome!) we want to make it easy for you to join in on the life-changing fun. Here’s a tutorial on how to join the #SeptemberWhole30 in four easy steps.
Step 1: Sign up for Wholesome
Click this link to sign up for our free Wholesome emails. No, you don’t have to subscribe to Wholesome to play along, but we’re sending our Wholesome readers some sweet bonuses all month long. We’ve got exclusive social media share graphics, a printable day-by-day countdown calendar, special offers and discounts from our Whole30 Approved partners and more. Plus, you’ll have first access to new Dear Melissa columns, inspiring I Am Whole30 stories, delicious recipes and more.
If you’re already a Wholesome subscriber, congratulations. You’re already a step ahead.
Step 2: Read (or order) The Whole3o
The Whole30 will be your Whole30 encyclopedia and best friend in book form, all month long. It’s seriously all you need to rock a successful Whole30 reset.
The official book of the Whole30 program is aptly titled The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom. It walks you through the program start to finish; teaches you how to prepare physically, mentally, and emotionally; and gives you a 7-day meal plan (complete with day-by-day preparation instructions); and more than 100 delicious Whole30 recipes to see you through.
Looking for more Whole30 recipes?* The Whole30 Cookbook has 150 more Whole30 recipes, highlighting unique flavors and creative preparations, but still utilizing ingredients that can be found in most standard grocery stores.
Curious about how to turn your September Whole30 into a lifetime of sustainable healthy eating habits? Food Freedom Forever is Melissa’s 3-part guide to taking the lessons you learn during your Whole30, and creating a personalized healthy eating plan that works for you for the rest of your life.
*Bonus points if you subscribe to Real Plans, which lets you plan a month’s worth of Whole30 breakfasts, lunches, and dinners in 15 minutes flat, including an automated shopping list and meal prep instructions. You can even customize your Whole30 recipes, omitting mushrooms if you don’t like them, or eggs if you’re sensitive.
Step 3: Commit
As we outline in The Whole30, the first step in joining the program is committing to follow the program rules 100% for 30 days in a row, no cheats, no slips, no excuses. This involves committing to yourself, but also sharing your commitment with others. That means telling friends and family, your fellow gym-goers, your church group, or co-workers that you’re doing the Whole30 starting September 1th.
But wait, I also want you to tell US! On August 31, we’ll be posting on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter asking, “Are you in?” Blow those posts up. Drop a comment of joy, excitement, trepidation, or any such combination and let us know that you are on board. You can also head over to the Whole30 Forum to join a “starting on…” thread and connect with people for encouragement and camaraderie throughout the 30 days.
Step 4: Follow Along
Okay, technically that’s all you need to do to join, but three steps seems just too easy, and we’d also like to connect with you beyond Day 1. So, check these things off your list one by one to stay involved, talk to us, get support and advice, and share your Whole30 experience:
- Follow us on Instagram at Whole30, Whole30 Recipes, and Whole30 Approved (and check in with Melissa Hartwig too)
- Like us on Facebook at Whole30, Whole30 Recipes, and Melissa Hartwig
- Follow us on Twitter at Whole30 and Melissa Hartwig
- Use the #SeptemberWhole30 #Whole30 hashtags on all your Whole30-related social media posts so we can see what you’re up to! (Yes, we actually look.)
*To make sure you actually SEE our posts, visit the Whole30 Facebook page and click the “Following” drop down menu next to the “Liked” button. Then select “See First.”
