Protein

There are tons of hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Canned tuna is a go-to choice. It’s an excellent source of protein, a quick meal that doesn’t need to be reheated, and a good way to use up any veggies you might have. Canned sardines are also another solid choice, and are loaded with omegas-3s, B12, and vitamin D. You can serve them as a Mediterranean plate alongside olives, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red onion, and some fresh herbs.

Sauces, condiments, and flavor boosters

Another great Albertsons find are the Kettle & Fire Whole30 Approved bone broths. They’re perfect for soups and stews, or as a drink on cold days rather than coffee. Alongside the bone broth, you’ll also find other flavor boosters—salsas, marinara sauce, mustard, hot sauces, and coconut aminos. These pantry staples will surely be used in a Whole30 recipe and can really pack a punch of bold flavor to your meals. Coconut milk is another big Whole30 pantry staple that can be used in coffees, curries, or soups. We can almost guarantee that at least once in your Whole30 journey you will use coconut milk. Some other favorite flavor boosters include Red Boat fish sauce for a salty, umami flavor, and sesame oil to add a nutty and toasty flavor in your meals.

Another one of our favorite Whole30 Approved brands for dressings is Siete. Their creamy Jalapeno Botana Sauce and Habañero Botana sauce are great over proteins or veggies. They also sell Whole30 Approved salsas that are great for Whole30 bowls or dipping your veggies.

Alternative flours and seasonings

Flour alternatives are important for a Whole30 as they can help thicken sauces, crisp up your proteins, and bind together your Whole30 meatballs. Flour alternatives that are Whole30 compatible include almond flour, cassava flour, coconut flour, and arrowroot powder. Within the same section you’ll find lots of different spices, but like with all things on Whole30, check your labels. In this aisle, you’ll also find nutritional yeast, which is a nice cheese alternative that you can sprinkle on salads, protein bowls, or use in dressings. Another great find is tahini—it will add a nice creamy, nutty richness to your dish.

Whole30 frozen food finds

The frozen food aisle at Albertsons is packed with Whole30 items waiting to be discovered. Spiralized veggies like zucchini are the perfect pasta substitute and won’t go bad as quickly as fresh produce. We also recommend cauliflower rice, which can be the base of your Whole30 bowls and salads or you can eat as a side. You can also use mixed frozen veggies to add some more variety.
