“Whole30 and My Topical Steroid Withdrawal Journey: Raela’s Story”

I first learned about Whole30 after discovering Topical Steroid Withdrawal after using prescription and over-the-counter steroid creams on my eczema for almost two decades. She recommended trying a round to help reduce the inflammation that was causing my skin to become red, puffy, torn, itchy with a liquid called ooze secreting from the skin. I quit using the creams July 9, 2019; it got worse before it got better.

It took a couple tries to get a full 30 days of Whole30 down, but with the help of a friend loaning me the book, online support, recipes and my naturopath who eats Whole30 year round, I am finally able to do a round without any major setbacks. The most challenging part is the sweet cravings, which are usually gone within a week. It’s really about being prepared, shopping, clearing out what you shouldn’t eat, and having support. I’m usually able to convince a friend or two to do it with me and have even guided a few people for their first try! I joined the January movement to start the year off right and September is my birthday month.

Whole30 also lead me to giving up alcohol for good! Along with changing my diet, I started making all natural skin care products and started practicing the Wim Hof Method to help reduce the inflammation. Within a year my skin became more healed and without steroids! I still flare due to stress and sugars, but the flares are not as frequent. My naturopath was impressed with the results! I really enjoy connecting with others especially those who deal with TSW.

I’m grateful for the Whole30 community and share this resource with our TSW community whenever I can. I look forward to the next round!
