Happy Book Birthday to The Whole30 Friends & Family

The Whole30 Friends & Family Hero

From Melissa Urban

IT’S HERE! The Whole30 Friends & Family is available today at your favorite bookstore. I got the idea for this book from you, my Whole30 community. For years, you’ve told me that socializing during your Whole30 continued to feel daunting, even with all of our resources and support. So, I pitched this idea to my publisher: Let’s create a Whole30 cookbook with menus for every day social gatherings, plus my best tips for hosting, attending and living your most social life during your Whole30.

The result is a cookbook that I’m more excited about than any other cookbook I’ve done. (And I LOVE my other cookbooks, so that’s really saying something.)

My Favorite Recipes from The Whole30 Friends & Family

The Whole30 Friends & Family is a celebration of the Whole30 community. I created menus for everyday social events that I know you’ll encounter during the course of your Whole30—like baby showers, family game nights, adult dinner parties, and a kid’s birthday party. I also collaborated with some of my favorite Whole30 recipe creatives, so you’ll enjoy recipes from Cook by Color, Every Last Bite, First and Full, Whole Kitchen Sink, Healthy Little Peach, Thyme and Joy, Physical Kitchness, The Whole Cook and Little Bits of Real Food.

I’ve been busily cooking away from the book for a few months now, and though I’ve yet to host a party, these recipes work just as well for weekday lunches or dinners. Almond Butter Curried Chicken Salad from the Beach Picnic menu (page 22) is on repeat at my house; I love that this version isn’t a creamy mayo base, and the warm notes of curry powder and raisins make it perfect for Fall.

I’ve also made the Spicy Pumpkin Power Bites from Road Trip (page 63) for my kid’s lunchbox. (I skip the cayenne in half the batch for him.) I love that they sneak in some collagen protein, and they’re a nutrient-dense snack that travels well in the car, to school, or on a plane.

Finally, the Orange Juliet from Family Movie Night (page 135) is a fun treat without all the sugar you’d find in the mall version of this creamy drink. You’ll find a dozen mocktails throughout these menus–we’ve included everything to help you entertain like a pro.

We’ve already shared a few sneak peek recipes here on the Whole30 blog, so even if you’re still waiting for the delivery person to drop off your copy of the book, you can still make a dish from it TODAY. Check out our recipes for Orange and Cumin Pork Carnitas, Grilled Cilantro Chicken and Shrimp, and Charred Pepper Steak Tacos with Citrus Chimichurri.

Go Forth and Party … Whole30-Style

I can’t wait to see how you put this book to use during your Whole30 and beyond. Share your photos on Instagram, and don’t forget to tag me (@melissau) and Whole30 (@whole30) so we can see. Use the hashtag #Whole30FriendsandFamily to connect with other Whole30’ers who are using the menus, recipes and tips from the book in fun and creative ways, too.
