This tangy drink is a fun Whole30 take on a Paloma Mocktail. With four simple ingredients, it’s a delicious and refreshing addition to warm-weather festivities!
What is a Paloma drink?
A La Paloma (Spanish for “dove”) is traditionally a tequila-based cocktail. It is most often made with tequila, lime juice, and grapefruit soda. However, no alcohol is allowed on a Whole30 (read more about the Whole30 rules here). So, we got creative to make a mocktail for this drink that is still Whole30 compatible.
Tips for making this mocktail
Our Paloma mocktail keeps its classic flavor profile with freshly squeezed lime and grapefruit juice. Then, we added a compatible sparkling grapefruit-flavored water. You can use whatever brand is compatible and accessible to you (we used Spindrift). Then, for a touch of sweetness to balance the tang of the grapefruit + lime juice, we added a splash of apple juice concentrate.
Apple juice concentrate is a frozen, concentrated form of apple juice found in the freezer section of most grocery stores. (Look for 100% juice with no added sweeteners.) Thaw in the fridge before use, and add a splash to drinks for a touch of sweetness without overpowering the flavor. If unavailable, substitute with 1/4+ cup apple juice, adding more to taste, but note that it won’t be as sweet.
