Whole30 Crispy Brussels Sprouts

When you need a simple side dish to complete your meal, look no further than these Whole30 Crispy Brussels Sprouts. Grab your favorite cast iron skillet and a bunch of fresh Brussels sprouts. You’ll most likely have the rest of the ingredients in your pantry, and you’ll be sitting down to enjoy this dish in very little time.

First, dice an onion and clean the brussels sprouts by cutting off the stem and paring a few outer leaves.

Next, saute the onions in olive oil until just browned, adding a couple of pinches of salt while they cook.

Then, add your cleaned brussels sprouts to the pan with a small amount of water, and cover the pan to steam the sprouts until they are fork-tender.

Finally, remove the lid and saute the Brussels and onions on high heat until beautifully browned and crispy. Remember to add olive oil just a bit at a time throughout the process to prevent the sprouts from sticking to the pan, and add salt to taste.

Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, this quick and easy-to-follow recipe produces the most perfectly cooked Brussels sprouts. So delicious, we doubt you’ll have any leftovers!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts
  • olive oil
  • salt

Instructions

  • DICE onion
  • CLEAN Brussels sprouts (I like to cut the end of the stem off, pare a few of the outer leaves, and cut each sprout in half)
  • SAUTÉ onions in olive oil until they’re just browned, adding a couple of pinches of salt while browning.
  • STEAM brussels: add cleaned sprouts to the same pan, along with a 1/8 to 1/4 cup of water.
  • COVER and steam until sprouts are fork-tender.
  • TAKE the lid off the pan (this is where the magic happens), and sautee the brussels and onions on high heat until they’re beautifully browned and crispy.
  • ADD olive oil a little bit at a time throughout the process so that they don’t stick to the pan.
  • ADD salt to taste.
